Basketball is only one sport Natasha Ashworth plays at Oungre's Lyndale School. She also plays volleyball, badminton, curling and runs on the track team. "I enjoy basketball the most because I get to meet lots of people," said Ashworth. "It's also more athletic than other sports. You have to be more fit to play basketball." Ashworth started playing basketball at Lyndale School in Grade 7 and now plays forward with her school team. Since then, her friends have helped her develop as a player. "We tell each other what we are doing wrong during practises and how we can do better." The different sports she plays are also staggered throughout the year, enabling Ashworth to stay active year-round. She is currently training for the 2000 Saskatchewan Summer Games as part of the Zone 1 basketball team. This is the first time the Oungre athlete has been on an elite basketball team, and while she's enjoyed it so far she expects the competition to be tough. "It's tougher than my school team and is more competitive. There is a lot more demand for skill so you have to be good to play here." She also plays baseball on the Oungre midget girls team during the summer months. |
