Writers Group members take part in day-long workshop

Eight members of the Weyburn Writers Group submitted writing and took part in a day-long workshop held on June 8 at the Weyburn Public Library.

The work was critiqued individually in advance, and was then discussed as a group, with notes on negative and positive impressions.

The submissions included poetry, short stories and children's stories, from writers Ceta Rude of Lake Alma, Jean Fahlman of Griffin, and Eileen Besler, Ileen Yates, Isabelle Eaglesham, Opal Elyk, Millie Whitehead, Jane Carrothers and Ruth Grohn, all of Weyburn.

In a short business meeting, members were reminded of Moose Jaw's Festival of Words. Some Weyburn members have submitted work for the 55 plus Senior Summer Games to the zone level. Winners will be displayed in the Weyburn Square Mall during the provincial Summer Games hosted in Weyburn on July 16-19.

The executive will make application for arts funding from the Saskatchewan Writers Guild, which allows the Weyburn group to bring in professional writers for workshops.

A two-month break follows the June workshop, with meetings to resume the second Thursday in September at the library. Anyone interested in writing is welcome to attend.
