Weyburn residents can get their fill of rides, food, entertainment, agricultural exhibitions, crafts, cattle shows and more, at the Weyburn Agricultural Society's 92nd annual fair, July 3, 4 and 5 at the exhibition grounds. Midway entertainment, put on this year by Select Shows, opens at 2 p.m. on Monday, and noon on Tuesday and Wednesday. A $20 wristband for the adventurous will provide unlimited access. There are also single-ride coupons and sheets of coupons available in varying quantities. The parade, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, takes place on Tuesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. It will travel south down Fifth Street to First Avenue, where it turns west. It will then go past the Weyburn General Hospital before turning south on Second Street, then east on Prairie Avenue. Upon reaching the Court House, the parade will go downtown on Third Street to Souris Avenue. The route then travels westbound on Souris Avenue to Second Street where it turns north. The final leg of the parade follows Second Street to Prairie Avenue where it will head west into the fair grounds. Some of the floats will also go to the Souris Valley Extended Care Facility via Highway 35 and the eastern access road. Exhibit displays will be housed in the Colosseum, which is open at noon each day. Fair participants will be able to peruse the home products, junior work, household arts, 4-H youth, school projects, agricultural products and many other exhibits on display. The entries in these categories will be judged prior to the fair. The exhibits close at 10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 9 p.m. Wednesday. 4-H members from around the province will be on hand over the three-day fair to take part in cattle competitions. On Monday, weighing of 4-H steers will take place at 8 a.m., and the 4-H judging competition is on at 10 a.m. Also on Monday, the 4-H team grooming competition will be held at 11:30 a.m. The 4-H fed calf show is on at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, and the 4-H female show is on Wednesday at 8 a.m. The awards presentation and heifer donation will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and 4-H events will wrap up at 2:30 p.m. with the fed calf sale. Cattle shows on Monday include the jackpot calf show, jackpot heifer show and purebred cattle show, attracting local producers and those from around the province. These events begin at 1 p.m. The jackpot steer show is on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Public judging of commercial pens begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, with official judging of commercial pens at 1 p.m. Pony chuckwagon and chariot races, which usually promise a lot of excitement, take place Monday and Tuesday in front of the grandstand. Shows are on at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. Monday, and 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The draft horse show is back again this year, at 11 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Ladies barrel racing is on at 5 p.m. on Monday, and the Katadhin sheep show is on Tuesday at noon. Entertainment at the fair includes hypnotist Bill Bentley, performing nightly at 8:30 p.m. at grandstand; the Hollywood Stunt Show with two afternoons and one evening performance on Monday and Tuesday (times will be posted); the Tuff Trucks and Lawnmower Races, on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand; The Kids Tractor Pull, twice daily at the Sports Arena; and the monster truck rides, with continuous rides all three days at a price of $4. Gate admission for the fair varies between per day and three-day passes: for adults, the fee is $7 or $14, seniors (65 and over) will be charged $6 or $12, students (13-18 years) will be charged $4 or $8, children 6-12 years will be charged $2 to $4 and children under 5 are free. A family pass is on sale in advance only for $30. There is also pay parking and camping available on the grounds. |
