Yellow Grass goalie drafted by NHL's Sharks

Former Yellow Grass resident Nolan Schaefer was selected in the NHL entry draft held in Calgary on Saturday.

The Providence College goaltender was selected 166th overall in the fifth round by the San Jose Sharks.

Schaefer was not in Calgary for the draft to hear the news himself, but found out while at his parent's home in Yellow Grass when acquaintances called to tell him the news.

His father, Peter Schaefer Sr., said the Sharks haven't contacted Nolan yet, but are likely to in the upcoming days.

Nolan is spending the summer in Saskatchewan training with his brother Peter, who is a forward with the Vancouver Canucks.

As a rookie with the Providence College Friars, Nolan posted a 6-5-1 record and a 3.24 goals-against average. Before playing in the United States, he played with the Nipawin Hawks in the SJHL.
