A short program with presentation from the grandchildren was conducted by daughters Elaine and Lori.

The Kay Deck family reunion was held at River Park over the Aug. 4-7 weekend, with all of Kay's children home to attend, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were accompanied from Calgary by their son Norlee and Rosemary and their three children. A highlight of the trip was Norvald's return to Bamfield after an absence of 58 years. After the invasion of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7,1941, the Canadian soldiers were put on alert to guard the West Coast against further attacks by the Japanese.

Norvald was assigned to guard the cable station at Bamfield as it was a strategic line of communications across the Pacific Ocean during wartime. It was an exciting experience for Norvald to view the changes that had taken place and to explain to the grandchildren the reason for his return trip there.
