Weyburn's Crocus 80 Theatre has chosen its executive for the 2000-2001 season, and plans are underway to commemorate the community theatre's 20th anniversary. The new executive, headed by president Leanne Bishop, includes vice-president D'Arcy Megenbir, secretary Kim Wheeler, treasurer Brenda Clarke, members at large Glenda Zackrisson and Ken Rose. "This year is the 20th anniversary of the Crocus 80 Theatre, so we're planning some special events to commemorate that. We're hoping our celebration will coincide with the fall dinner theatre, which is a comedy titled, 'Charlie's Aunt'," said Bishop. The fall dinner theatre will be held in the upper level of the Elks Hall on Nov. 16, 17, 18 with a matinee on Nov. 19. Ticket prices will be released later. Audition dates for the play are Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 6 and 7 at 7:30 at the T.C. Douglas Centre. Everyone interested in becoming involved in the play's production, including actors, costumes, backstage staff, is encouraged to come out to the auditions. "We hope that people will support Weyburn's own community theatre. The group presents a very high quality show," said Bishop. "Charlie's Aunt is a play about college students who try to pull one over on the school by having their friend dress up as one of their aunts." Next spring, the Crocus 80 Theatre executive is hoping the group can take a play to the Saskatchewan Community Theatre Association's play competition and festival in Regina. |
