A prominent woman in Saskatchewan's First Nations community will speak at an information meeting hosted by the Weyburn Liberal Women's Association on Tuesday, Sept. 19 Speaker Ivy Kennedy is one of the founders of Women of the Dawn, an Aboriginal healing centre based in Regina. Since 1993 Women of the Dawn have been providing counseling services to First Nations women, with particular attention to survivors of residential schools. A new counseling centre, which had its first open house on Aug. 31, will include individual and group therapy, Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous meetings, support groups and healing circles. Kennedy will speak at the Signal Hill Arts Centre, Caragana Room, at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend - no political affiliation is necessary. |
