All extra-curricular activities and events at the Weyburn Comprehensive School are now back on schedule following the tentative agreement in the teachers' contract dispute. Some events have been rescheduled while others have been cancelled. The first major rescheduling was Parents' Night, originally set for Sept. 19; it has now been moved to Tuesday, Sept. 26 starting at 7:15 p.m. Parents are invited to spend a mini-school day and have the teachers briefly explain their courses, expectations and marking. The magazine campaign continues this week with the goal of selling 1,200 subscriptions to help finance SRC activities. As this is the SRC's major fund-raiser of the year, it is critical the students sell these subscriptions, which will raise an estimated $10,000. The football season has been reduced to five games; none of the games in Regina have been rescheduled, but the game against Notre Dame, originally set for Sept. 9, will now be held on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. The game against Regina Martin here and Regina Johnson in Regina have been cancelled. The girls volleyball tournament scheduled for this weekend will go ahead, starting on Friday at 2 p.m. Teams will be coming from Indian Head, Yellow Grass, Glenavon, Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Lumsden and Balgonie for the round-robin tournament. Championship games will take place on Saturday at 8 p.m. Plan to come and watch some exciting high school volleyball. The boys volleyball team will be in a tournament in Estevan, and are working on hosting a tournament here on the Thanksgiving long weekend in October to make up for the one cancelled last week. District golf has been changed to Monday, Sept. 25 in Carlyle and the provincial playoff has been postponed until Sept. 29 and 30. The girls soccer team is in a tournament in Yorkton this Saturday. Drama practices will now resume and the debate team is also preparing for the upcoming season. |
