The bearer of bad news

Bill Hawton, a grain buyer at the Weyburn Inland Terminal, shows some examples of the durum, barley and spring wheat he's inspected over the past few days. Hawton has been the bearer of bad news for several farmers who were hoping this year's crop would save the farm.

Ready for a test drive

Grade 10 student Geoff Hala gets ready to begin a test drive through an obstacle course with driver education teacher Barb Vollbrecht, using goggles to simulate driving while impaired at night. The driving test demonstration was held in the parking lot near the Tom Zandee Sports Arena, and teens were required to drive through a slalom course, parallel park and stop short of pylons without hitting them. The night goggles simulate a level of impairment of around .17 to .200, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08 blood-alcohol level. The demonstration was put on by SGI driver testing, SCHD addictions services and the Weyburn Police Service.
