Break-ins and robbery investigated

The Weyburn Police Service is investigating an attempted robbery and a series of break-ins to city businesses over the past week.

After a series of four break-ins on Wednesday night, and an attempted robbery the same evening, police were also called to two more break-ins on Monday and Tuesday, including the Soo Line Day Care once again and Hillview Sales on the South Hill.

A few items were taken from the day care, while a small amount of cash was stolen from the service station.

On Thursday morning, break-ins were reported at Kentucky Fried Chicken, A&W, Pizza Palace and Silver Rose. Windows were smashed to gain entry to each business, and very little was taken, mostly small amounts of cash, said Inspector Rod Horsman.

An attempted robbery also took place Wednesday evening at the 385 Motel, as a lone male came in around 7:20 p.m. and indicated he was armed with a gun. No weapon was seen.

The victim successfully escaped from the office and the suspect fled on foot; no cash was stolen. The area was immediately searched by police, but the suspect was not found.

Police are looking for a white male suspect, described as approximately five-foot-eight inches tall, with a slim build and in his late teens or early 20s.

Anyone with information about this suspect or any of the above crimes are asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at their toll-free tips line, at 1-800-222-8477.

Callers are not asked to reveal their identity and calls are not recorded or traced. Calls which lead to an arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 through the Crime Stoppers program.
