Public library to put book sale proceeds towards project

The Weyburn Public Library is hoping to shore up its fund-raising efforts for the building project with the fall book sale, to run today, Sept. 27 and Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Weyburn Square Mall.

The sale will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today, and 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday.

To complement the funds raised by the book sale itself, the library will also provide a coupon for five books of the donor's choice for every donation of $25 towards the library's building fund.

Story Hour for children aged three to five years resumed for the fall last week and will run for six weeks, take a week off and resume again on Nov. 7, 8 and 9. The sessions are held on Tuesdays at 1 p.m., Wednesdays at 1 and 2 p.m. and Thursdays at 10:15 a.m.

A new Books Before Bedtime session will start on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m., and will run for five weeks.

The Weyburn library will provide forms for two contests to be held in conjunction with Saskatchewan Library Week, which is Oct. 15-21 this year.

The first contest is for the "My favourite book contest" run by CBC Radio, where people are asked to send a postcard or letter to Afternoon Edition host Colin Grewer, and say in 50 words or less the title and author of their favourite book and why they like it. Winning entries will be read on the air the week of Oct. 16-20. Winners will also receive a book prize from the Saskatchewan Library Association.

The second contest is called "The key to your library," although the forms have not yet been received.

The new fall and winter hours for the library, while located at the mall, are Monday to Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. During the hours when the mall is not open the back door will be open for access.
