Four-term city councillor Marlene Nedelcov received a provincial volunteer award as one of nine individuals presented with the 2000 Volunteer Awards for Sport, Culture and Recreation at an awards banquet in Saskatoon on Friday. Nedelcov was nominated for the award by the Weyburn Parks Board, which she has served with since 1986, including time as the chair. Nedelcov is just ending her last term on council, as she did not run again this year, but indicated she will continue her involvement with the parks board. She was a founder and chair of the Tatagwa Parkway Planning District, is a former president of the Association of Saskatchewan Urban Parks and Recreation Conservation Agencies, is an annual convener of Arbor Day and the Crocus Spring Festival, and until now has served on the Weyburn Leisure Services Commission. Nedelcov has also played a role in promoting arts and culture, health and wellness initiatives, community and humanitarian services and addressing business and labour concerns during her time on council. |
