Degenhart art exhibit at Signal Hill for month of November

The Weyburn Arts Council is presenting an exhibit of work by local printmaker and landscape painter Eltje Degenhart through the month of November at the Signal Hill Arts Centre.

A reception with the artist will be held at Signal Hill on Friday, Nov. 3, starting at 7:30 p.m.

The artist lives at Kenosee Lake, and is also an art teacher at the Weyburn Comprehensive School. He has taught for over 27 years, most of it at the high school level.

Degenhart was born in Holland in 1951 and came to Canada as a child. He was raised and educated in Weyburn before going on to art school in Calgary and the University of Regina. He studied under such painters and sculptors as Ted Godwin, Art McKay and Joe Fafard.

The works of art in the exhibition are all silk screen prints, with the exception of a master drawing. Pieces in the exhibit range from a 1983 piece, entitled "Rocks," to his latest print, "Wildflower in a Civilized Land."

"This exhibition is a good teaching show because it represents many ways of blocking a screen, from simple paper stencil to complex photo silk screening. I continue to enjoy the process of screen printing. The possibilities are endless, and I'm still learning," said Degenhart.
