The start of the Christmas season for many Weyburn residents, the 47th annual Festival of Carols, will be held in the afternoon and evening of Sunday, Dec. 3. The annual presentation of the Quota Club of Weyburn will be held at a different location this year, at Zion Lutheran Church, due to the renovation and construction work ongoing at Grace United Church. The emcee for both programs will be Isabelle Butters, who noted there is a full slate of performers with nine groups in the afternoon and 10 in the evening. "A lot of people look at the festival as the start of their Christmas season in Weyburn," said Butters. There is no admission charge to attend the festival, although a silver collection will be taken at the door. All proceeds will go to the Mini-Go School at the Family Place, and towards the toy-lending library at the children's library, which will be donated by Quota when the public library moves back into its renovated space by next February. The afternoon will begin with the prelude at 1:45 p.m., with music provided by the Bestvater family, followed by carol singing at 2:15 p.m. with the Quota chorus. The afternoon's performers are led off by the signing group, Signature, from Estevan, followed by choirs from Grace United Church, Souris School, Zion Lutheran, Knox Presbyterian, St. Vincent de Paul, Haig School, Rotary Club and Variations. The evening prelude by the Bestvater ensemble begins at 6:45 p.m. and carol singing at 7:15 p.m. The performers are led off by the Lions Community Band, followed by Assiniboia Park, Peace Lutheran, Weyburn Comp Choir, Octavius Singers, Grace United Chancel Choir, Free Methodist Church Choir, St. Vincent de Paul Choir, Grace United Men's Choir and Zion Lutheran's Senior Choir. |
