Weyburn youth qualifies for national bowling competition

A Weyburn bowler will be joining five other youth bowlers at the National Youth Bowling Council competition in Hamilton, Ont. in March.

Kasey Fowler came in second place at the Five Pin Association qualifier in Saskatoon Dec. 10 with an average of 265, only 10 points shy of first place.

This is the second time the 18-year-old will be competing at the national level. Fowler's first appearance at the nationals earned him an individual ninth place finish in Saskatoon in 1996. He has his sights set higher this year with more experience under his belt.

"I would like to place top five," Fowler said of the individual competition.

The six Saskatchewan competitors join forces to make a mixed team - three girls and three boys - to compete against other mixed teams from throughout Canada.

The National Youth Bowling Council competition will be held from March 29 to April 1.
