Winter Concert at the Comp performed to packed house

The annual Weyburn Comprehensive School Winter Concert was performed before a packed house on Wednesday evening.

This concert marked the final appearance of bandmaster Tanya Cameron for a little while, as she is going on maternity leave, and of emcee Janet Linnell, who is retiring at the end of January.

Students and staff are experiencing a slight case of confusion as most of the classes in the 1912 section are relocated to other parts of the school to allow for the renovations for the Southeast Regional College.

The only rooms being retained by the Comp are five English rooms on the second floor, one English room on the main floor, and the Art Department is staying in the basement. There will be more congestion in the 1972 area, especially in the west end, where the math department has relocated to.

Everyone is invited to visit the WCS website that is now up and running (www.sasked.gov.sk.ca/~weybcomp), as a great deal of work has gone into the project and many more hours are yet needed. There is a contest on right now, and parents and students are asked to log on to find out the details. Information on scholarships and other interesting material is also up on the web site.

There will be an invitation-only semi-formal school dance on Friday, Dec. 15.

All former Eagle boys basketball players are reminded of the alumni game to be held on Thursday, Dec. 21.

The debate club is looking for judges for a tournament they are hosting on Jan. 12, 2001. If you are able to help, please contact Glenda Shupe at the school. A large number of judges are required to host such an event, and new individuals are welcome. It is an opportunity to hear some great debates from across southern Saskatchewan and to help this program continue at WCS.

A judging clinic will be provided for all new and experienced judges the evening before. Judges work in teams so no one would be working on their own.

The career fair will now be held on Tuesday, March 20.

In basketball action, the senior girls team will host a tournament this weekend, and the boys will be off to Humboldt for their first tournament of the year.

Some members of the senior girls' volleyball team, along with some other players from the area, lost in the quarter-finals in the SVA provincial Arima Cup competition, while some members of the boys' volleyball team were on a team that placed second in the province in their age category.

Casey Fowler, a former WCS student, was one of three Saskatchewan male bowlers who qualified to attend a national YBC competition to be held in Hamilton in March.
