All students in the Weyburn Roman Catholic Separate school division will be receiving AIDS education in their health classes next fall. "The program selected has received support from all the bishops in Saskatchewan," said Boutin. One or two health classes per year for students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 will be designated to AIDS education with a Catholic perspective. "The Catholic perspective will be to reflect God's love for all people and have compassionate care for the sick," said Boutin. The program will aid in the teaching of children to be more mature, compassionate and self-disciplined Christians. The Weyburn Roman Catholic Separate School board has decided to join forces with a new Internet site allowing the district an additional avenue to recruit teachers. "It has been difficult to recruit teachers, especially in the special areas," said Al Boutin, director of education. Through the web site, www.educationcanada.com, school districts from across Canada can advertise their positions while giving the applicant some information about the area to which they are applying, the schools involved with the district and a brief description of the curriculum. With easy to follow directions, applicants can select a desired area, click on job opportunities and find out what positions are available for that district. The web site divides Saskatchewan into southeast, southwest, south central, central, mid east, mid west and northern regions. A review of the structured learning class has been conducted by the Separate board. A partnership was formed between the Weyburn Central and Separate school divisions this year to better meet the needs of the students. "It has been a nice partnership. Neither school district could run the program on its on, but combined there are enough students to justify the program," said Boutin. The class is held at Queen Elizabeth School with some students from St. Dominic School. |
