Ready for the science fair

Comp science teacher Wade Oberg and student Ali Naini listen as student Phillip Straub explains the findings of his science project. Both students are entering the Southeast Regional Science Fair, to be held Friday, March 16, at 33 Central School in Fillmore. Naini's project is a comparison of sunspots, using photos he took of the sun using a 3.5-inch telescope over a period of six weeks; he compared his photos to ones downloaded from an observatory on the Internet. Straub, an exchange student from Germany, is presenting a study on the effect of refrigeration on Vitamin C content in fruits.

Forcing his way in

Red Wings forward Nathan Ward, 16, forces his way by a Notre Dame defender in order to get a shot on net Friday at the Colosseum. While not scoring on this play, Ward earned an assist and scored the winning goal at 1:31 of overtime to give the Wings the first win in the playoff series against the Hounds by 4-3.
