Signs of spring!

Souris School Horticultural Club students Kimberley Thorn and Melissa Grams water some of the plants the club grows in the school's solarium while Chelsea Ustupski checks another plant to remove any dead leaves. The Horticultural Club meets on Mondays at noon to prune their plants and flowers.

Myers scholarship organizers gather

The main organizers for the Kate Myers Scholarship Fund gather with the fund's namesake, Kate Myers, at a special dinner in her honour on Friday evening. The group includes, from left, Al Yeaman, Ross McMurtry, Dr. Noel Hall, Jack Onstad, Guy Devenny and Jim Burge. Missing was Guy Shupe. The fund has had about 140 contributors so far, and organizers are planning to give the first scholarship to a Weyburn Comp student this year, once the criteria for the award are set in place. The scholarship will be named after Miss Myers, a former Grade 1 teacher who taught for 43 years, most of them in Weyburn at Haig and Assiniboia schools. There will also be a book award established for a student leaving Grade 6.
