Flood devastation

The Keller farm southwest of Osage looks like it was plunked down in the middle of a lake, as seen from the sky in this aerial photo taken Monday. RM of Fillmore councillor Russ Leguee went up in Brian Goranson's plane, along with Doug Beach, to view the devastation. Floyd and Pearl Keller, along with their son Frank who lives in the same yard, were among the hardest hit by the flooding. Although the Kellers did build a dike around their yard, water was able to seep in and ruin a bin full of canola. The water drained down from the Moose Mountain Creek area, a tributary of the Souris River, and has concentrated in the low-lying areas of Osage, Fillmore, Handsworth, Glenavon and Corrine. However, the flooding is worst west of Osage, as it has accumulated in a low pocket of land that has no drainage.
