Staff of the Weyburn Comprehensive School are working on a video presentation for Education Week, which is being held Oct. 21-27 in all Weyburn and area schools. The video will highlight the school and the activities that take place there. The school will not be having an open house this year, but parents are encouraged to visit the school to see how classes and activities are going, and to exchange information with the teachers. Some choral and band students attended clinics held by visiting music educator Dennis Tupman on Thursday, and picked up some useful tips along with enthusiasm for the continued support and expansion of the fine arts program. Over the weekend, the WCS debate team participated in a tournament at Regina Campbell, where Shanna Pilon and Marcie Becker won second place in the Division IV Open category. A number of French students from the Comp went to the University of Saskatchewan on Friday to find out more about the opportunities available there. This week, the SRC will sponsor a school dance on Friday, Oct. 26, and the volleyball teams will be travelling out-of-town. The senior boys will travel to Balgonie, the senior girls will be in Saskatoon and the junior girls will be at a tournament in Moose Jaw. The Comp Eagles football team will take part in playoffs against Regina Usher on Thursday at Taylor Field in Regina, starting at 5 p.m. They fell to undefeated F.W. Johnson on Saturday at home in a close game. The second half of the Redcoat Volleyball Series will be held at the Comp on Tuesday, Oct. 30, versus Estevan. The series is tied, as the WCS girls won and the boys lost their first set of games held in Estevan earlier this month. |
