The nomination deadline for the annual Golden Sheaf award is less than a week away, but the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce is still accepting nominations for the prestigious award, said Chamber manager Carole Coccimiglio. The cut-off date for nominations is Tuesday, Nov. 6. The Golden Sheaf award is given to an individual who has made a significant contribution to local agriculture. Nomination forms are available at most local banks, RM offices, farm implement dealers and City Hall. The award will be handed out at Farmer Appreciation Night on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The event will be held at McKenna Hall, with cocktails at 6 p.m. and the supper and program to follow. Coccimiglio said that tickets for the annual event are "going fast." Tickets cost $20 each with taxes included. Those interested in attending may call Coccimiglio at the Chamber of Commerce office. This year's Farmer Appreciation Night festivities will feature keynote speaker and former Weyburn resident Paul Martin, whose career in both print and broadcast journalism have taken him around the globe and provided him a unique perspective on Saskatche- wan's position in the world economy. |
