The Weyburn Comp Eagles senior girls volleyball advanced to the gold medal game of a tournament in Lumsden held over the weekend, but came up short in two very hotly-contested games. The Weyburn girls placed first in their pool, with a 7-1 win-loss record. In the first playoff round, they defeated Oxbow 25-6 and 25-22, and Moose Jaw Peacock by scores of 25-16 and 25-15 to get to the medal round. In the semi-final, they played Swift Current and won by scores of 25-23 and 25-21. In the final, they met up with Prince Albert Carlton in an exciting final, but came up short with scores of 32-30 and 29-27. Lynsey MacInnis was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. For the second year in a row, the Comp Eagles won the spirit award for the 20-team tournament. The top hitters for the weekend included Tonya Mokelki with 67 kills, and Heather Maloney with a 90 per cent hitting efficiency. The top servers were Jenna Unraw and Jody Anderson, both getting 98 per cent of their serves in. The next action for the senior girls is the district playoff against Estevan in Estevan on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. The winner will advance to the provincials in Moose Jaw the following weekend. |
