Jason Rutten has been looking forward to this day for nearly three years. Last Thursday Rutten was sworn in as the newest constable for the Weyburn Police Service in an official ceremony that included friends, family, co-workers and dignitaries. "I'm very excited to be working for the people of Weyburn," said Const. Rutten. "It took three years to get here, but it's what I want to do. It wasn't until just this year that I received a letter asking me to come to Weyburn for an interview. They liked what they heard." The newly christened 24-year-old constable, who was born and raised in Yellow Grass, is looking forward to helping serve and protect the people of Weyburn. "I believe I'll be working out on the street next week. I hope I can offer more service and protection for everybody in Weyburn," said Const. Rutten. At the ceremony, Mayor Don Schlosser welcomed Const. Rutten to the City of Weyburn's police force and presented the new officer with his badge and uniform pins. Const. Rutten will work on the streets of the city until January, then he's off for a 17-week recruit training course at the Saskatchewan Police College located on the campus of the University of Regina. The course is only offered to sworn officers who have already been hired by a Saskatchewan police agency. The recruit training program will provide Const. Rutten with the skills, knowledge and procedures he will need to become an effective police officer in Weyburn, including proper investigative procedures, laws, defence tactics and human behaviour, among other important policing practices. The extensive program is broken down into physical, academic and skills training courses. |
