All Saints Anglican Church lights way with Tree of Love

The All Saints Anglican Church is again giving Weyburn residents a chance to honour loved ones who have passed on this Christmas by lighting the way for others.

The "Tree of Love" campaign is being launched for the second Christmas in a row, with the large evergreen at the corner of Third Street and Bison Avenue serving as the Tree of Love.

As part of the campaign, Rev. Julie Collings said local residents may purchase lights on the tree in honour of family members and friends who have passed on.

Two lights can be purchased for $20, or roughly $10 per light. As soon as there are a number of lights on the tree purchased, it will be lighted up.

The Tree of Love will then remain lit until Epiphany on Jan. 6, 2002.

Proceeds from the Tree of Love are directed to various community projects and individuals, as chosen by a committee within the church. Last year, Collings said about $1,000 was raised, with the bulk of the funds going to Communithon and the Southeast Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society.

Those purchasing lights are also invited to a special Christmas Memorial Service at the church on Sunday, Dec. 16, starting at 4 p.m. All of those who have been honoured on the Tree of Love will be named in this candlelight ceremony.
