Schools set to hold holiday programs through December

Weyburn residents will have a full slate of Christmas concerts and programs to choose from in the month of December, as local schools celebrate the Yuletide season with productions of holiday cheer.

The Weyburn Junior High will kick things off with a band and choir concert tonight, Dec. 5, starting at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature performances by the jazz band, honour band and choir.

St. Michael School will follow with its own Christmas concert on Tuesday, Dec. 11. The concert will start at 7:30 p.m., and will feature the school jazz band, concert band, junior band and choir.

The Weyburn Comprehensive School will hold its band and choral concert the following evening on Dec. 12. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m.

The Comp will also end the year with a student assembly on Friday, Dec. 21, where the students will perform various skits to the theme of "Santa Went Sour."

Haig School will hold their concert in three showings to better accommodate seating. The first part, featuring the Kindergarten and Grade 1 students, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 18, starting at 2 p.m. in the gym. The second part will feature Grade 5-6 students performing the evening of Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

The Grades 2-4 students finish off the Haig School Christmas program with a show on Thursday, Dec. 20, starting at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 19, promises to be a busy night, as Souris School, Queen Elizabeth Elementary School and Assiniboia Park Elementary School will all hold their Christmas programs that day.

The Queen Elizabeth concert starts at 1:30 p.m. Division 1 students will be doing some singing to start the event off, and Division 2 will put on a play called "Christmas Chronicle."

Souris School's Christmas Concert, beginning at 7 p.m., will feature two musicals: "Santa's Holiday Ho-Down" will be performed by the Division 2 students, and the Kindergarten to Grade 2 students will perform the "Tiniest Christmas Tree."

Assiniboia Park's concert begins at 7 p.m. Kindergarten to Grade 3 students will put on the play, "On this Magic Night," and Grades 4-6 students will put on, "Twas One Crazy Night Before Christmas."

The final Christmas concert will be held by St. Dominic Savio School on Thursday, Dec. 20. The St. Dominic concert will be at the Weyburn Comp at 7 p.m., and will feature the production, "Our Favourite Time of the Year."
