Twirlers celebrates 40th year

Past and present members of the Weyburn Twirlers Square Dance Club, and their guests, celebrated the club's 40th anniversary on Saturday.

Club president Joe Janoski welcomed the callers, dancers and guests to the event. he afternoon started with 97 registered dancers (12 squares), dancing to the calling by Don and Frankie Mortenson, Bob and Rae Nurse and Bill and Shirley Treleaven in the Assembly Hall at Souris Valley Extended Care Centre.

The hall was decorated with memorabilia from the past, including the old gold banner which was hung during the club's first years, the black banner, and their newest one, which is red with black trim, along with Don Mortenson's memory quilt and a banner from Ken and Joyce Beggs when they were a caller couple in Weyburn.

The Weyburn Twirlers served dainties with coffee and punch in the afternoon, and in the evening they served cake with strawberries and ice cream.
