The Weyburn Red Wings end the year and begin a new one against long-time rivals the Estevan Bruins, as the two teams will hold matches on Sunday, Dec. 30, and Tuesday, Jan. 1.

The match on Dec. 30 will be played at the Colosseum and start at 3 p.m. The game on Jan. 1 will be played in Estevan, starting at 4 p.m.

The two games will be important for the Wings, as their success or failure will be a determining factor in the playoff spot with the Yorkton Terriers.

The Terriers, who sit in fifth place in the Sherwood Conference, also play a pair of games on Dec. 30 and Jan. 1 against the Melville Millionaires.

Potentially, the Terriers could pull ahead of the Wings if they scored even one victory, in the case Weyburn loses both matches with Estevan. Though the Wings are strong in comparison to the early season, they have been unable to defeat the Bruins so far this year.

The next match-up for the Red Wings will be the following Jan. 4-6 weekend, when Weyburn plays on Friday against La Ronge, Saturday against Melfort and Sunday against Nipawin.
