Looking for the best move

Carla Watson and Crystal Russell concentrate on what their next moves will be in a chess match, during the second of two after-school chess tournaments at Haig School on Wednesday. The group of players held round-robin games with each other during the hour-long tournament.

Young Fellows TV Auction raises $23,000

Weyburn Young Fellows members man the phones during the live broadcast at the 45th annual TV auction at McKenna Hall on Saturday. At the phone table in the front, from left is Jack Diede, John Corrigan, Dan Frison and Greg Konotopetz, and in front is Don Baillie at the television monitor. Early numbers show the televised auction collected approximately $23,000 in winning bids, including $1,000 from Ken Sholter for the signed, game-worn Curtis Joseph jersey.
