Curlers from across the province, including the Dave Rommann rink of Weyburn, will take to the ice at the Weyburn Curling Club to compete for the chance to play in the national finals. The SaskTel Mobility Cup 2003 Senior Men's and Women's Provincial Curling Championship will begin with the opening ceremonies on Thursday, Jan. 2. Teams will be led into the ceremony by bagpipes followed by comments from dignitaries. Team draws will be held to decide the order of play when action gets underway on Friday, Jan. 3 until Monday, Jan. 6. There will be a total of 16 teams taking part in the tournament, eight men and eight women, half coming from the north of the province and the other half from the south. The Dave Rommann rink from the Weyburn Curling Club will be taking part in the championship after winning the B side southern playdowns in Shaunavon. The rink is made up of Dave Rommann, Gary Kreutzer, Brian Bakken and Kevin Bakken. Each team won their position at the provincial championship over the Dec. 20 weekend at the northern and southern playdowns. Six sheets of ice will be used with at least four sheets being used continuously throughout the weekend. Spectators are welcomed to attend the championship with the full weekend costing $30, or $15 per day or $5 to view the final draw of the day. Tickets are available by contacting either the Weyburn Curling Club or Fred Martyn. National Finals will be held in Lethbridge from Saturday, Jan. 18 until Sunday, Jan. 26. |
