Volunteers with the Weyburn Young Fellows Club will pick up city residents' discarded Christmas trees on Sunday, Jan. 12. Spokesman Jack Diede said residents should put their unwanted trees in the front of their house for pickup. The trees are taken to the city, which shreds them and uses the mulch in city parks and boulevards around town. "It's a service to the community," said Diede. The club has picked up the trees for the past 20 years for shredding. The cost to volunteer club members is the use of their vehicles and the gas. Diede said none of the trees sold by the Young Fellows' Club before Christmas were carriers of bothersome insects found in some trees sold in Regina this season. "We had a different buyer," said Diede, so there will be no disposal problems. |
