Armchair Travel Series set for Weyburn Public library

The Weyburn Public Library will present its first-ever Armchair Travel Series this winter for would-be travelers and homebodies alike. The four presentations will feature slides from Britain, southeast Asia and the Caribbean, South America and Africa.

"I'm thrilled about this series," said head librarian Michele Fedyk

"It will feature people from the community presenting slides about their trips to warmer destinations. It's just the right time of year for people who don't go on big holidays to still enjoy warmer countries through the slides."

Fedyk said she has offered a similar kind of series at other libraries but this is a first for Weyburn. All sessions are free, are held on Thursday and will begin at 7 p.m.

Stan Zaluski will show slides about his trip to Britain and Scotland on Thursday, Jan. 16 while Bob King will show the slides from his trip to Tahiti, Southeast Asia and Australia on Thursday, Jan. 30. On Thursday, Feb. 20, Joe Janoski will present his slides from the Amazon, South America, Peru and Chile, followed by Doug Loden's slides of Africa, Zaire, Uganda and Kenya on Thursday, March 6.

Fedyk said most people are interested in seeing other countries, even if they can't or don't want to travel.

Through this series, people also get to hear the stories behind the visit and hear the answers to questions about each country visited, she said. "It's also good for people planning a trip. It's an entertaining way to find out about the country they want to visit."
