Four members of the Weyburn Red Wings have been selected for the Sherwood Conference All-Star team, who will be playing in the MJHL-SJHL All-Star Challenge on Jan. 31-Feb. 2. Nathan Deobald was chosen as one of the team's two goaltenders, along with Todd Veary of Yorkton. Curt Corbett was selected as one of four centres, while Red Wings' captain Shayne Emmons and top scorer Lee Gusikoski will form one-half of the right wing. Weyburn was tied with Melville and Yorkton for the number of players on the Sherwood Conference All-Star Team. Estevan had the most with five, while Notre Dame only had three; however, Hounds coaches Rene Lemire and Terry O'Malley were chosen to head up the team. In addition to having players on the All-Stars team, the Red Wings will also have a substantial presence on the Sherwood Conference Prospects team, which is comprised entirely of rookie players. This team will be playing the Prospects team from the Dodge Conference at the All-Star Weekend. Rookie Greg Park was the only unanimous choice on the team, and he will be playing left defence. Rick Wood will be one of four centres, Kenny King will be on right wing offence, and Frankie Dicks will be on left wing. Also, Wings head coach Dwight McMillan and assistant coach Darcy Pindus have been selected to head up the Prospects team. Counting the presence of McMillan and Pindus, Weyburn has the most representation on the Prospects team. Yorkton and Notre Dame each have five players, while Estevan and Melville each had three. The All-Star weekend will be held in Manitoba this year, split between Flin Flon and The Pas. First, the Dodge Conference team will play the MJHL Addison Conference All-Star team in Flin Flon on Saturday, Feb. 1. The Sherwood Conference team will then play the MJHL Sherwood Conference team in The Pas on Sunday, Feb. 2. The Prospects game will take place Friday, Jan. 31, in Flin Flon. |
