The community of Stoughton is getting a helping hand towards building a new curling rink from the Saskatchewan Roughriders. On Sunday, Feb. 2, the Stoughton Arena will host the "Rider Priders," a team comprised of current and former players with the Roughriders, staff and media personalities. They will be squaring off against a team of local curlers, individuals interested in establishing the new curling club in Stoughton. "This game is meant to be a fun, not serious match. It will consist of jokes and barbs and goalies taking the faceoffs," said Kevin Clive, communications assistant with the Roughriders. Because the Rider Prider roster is subject to change, it may be anyone from the team showing up. The game starts at 3:30 p.m. Admission will be $5 for adults, $2 for students and free for preschool children. After the game, there will be a supper and auction of Roughriders' merchandise at the Stoughton Legion. There will also be raffles and prize draws done in conjunction with the game. Stoughton resident Chris Piper, who is helping to organize the game, said they have no fund-raising goal for this event, since they have never done this type of event before. Construction on the new curling club is supposed to start by next year, said Piper. |
