Checking out the People's Choice winner

Charlene and Grace Kurtz and Erna Murray have a close look at Ken Hill's sculpture of an owl, the winning entry in the James Weir People's Choice art competition. There were 597 votes cast during the month of January, and the results were announced Friday evening at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery at a reception. Hill was not present for the announcement of the winning entries.

Quilting goes high-tech

Bonnie Mactaggart looks at a photo on her computer screen as instructor Jacqueline Garbutt shows her a quilting square with the same photo printed on it, during an education session in the EnCana Learning Lab on Saturday. The class was hosted by the Crocus Quilters to show quilters how to scan photos, use the PhotoShop program and reproduce those photos on squares they can sew into a quilt. The group will hold another class on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and more students are needed. For information or to register, contact Southeast Regional College.
