Not much to tell from All-Star Weekend

Despite having a strong contingent of players at the event, the Weyburn Red Wings barely registered a bleep on the radar at the SJHL-MJHL All-Star Weekend, with only one player scoring a goal.

The All-Star Weekend was held Friday through to Sunday in The Pas and Flin Flon, Man. In total, eight Red Wings players were at the event, with four on the Sherwood All-Star team and four on the Sherwood Prospects team; Wings coach Dwight McMillan and Darcy Pindus were also there coaching the Prospects team, a role granted to them because the Wings are sitting in second place of the Sherwood.

In the Sherwood Conference All-Star Game at The Pas on Sunday, Lee Gusikoski was the only Red Wing to make his mark on the scoreboard, scoring the team's first goal.

Nathan Deobald was also on the ice goaltending, but had a less-than-stellar weekend; four goals were scored against him in just over 30 minutes.

The SJHL Sherwood team was able to defeat the Dodge 7-6 in a final shootout. Their win was only one-half of the total victory achieved this weekend by the SJHL All-Star team; the Dodge Conference also defeated the MJHL's Addison Division team a day earlier.

None of the Red Wings on the Prospects Team recorded goals or assists during their game on Friday night, which ended 6-3 for the Sherwood Prospects. Also, no one was the top winner in any of the skills competitions.

The other Red Wings on the Sherwood All-Star team were Steve Pearce, Curt Corbett and Shayne Emmons. On the Prospects team were Greg Park, Rick Wood, Kenny King and Frankie Dicks.
