Eagles take 86-point lead in historic McLeod Series

The Weyburn Comp Eagles all but clinched the McLeod Series on their home turf on Jan. 28, as they gained an 86-point lead over the downtrodden Estevan Elecs.

Both the senior girls and senior boys teams gained considerable victories over their Estevan opponents, as the girls won 80-38 and the boys won 92-48.

The McLeod Series concluded in Estevan last night, Feb. 4. Results are not available due to publication deadlines.

Unless Estevan could overcome their considerable lead, a victory by Weyburn this year will draw the Eagles' winning streak to 20 years in a row. However, Estevan is still ahead of Weyburn in total McLeod Series victories, owing to a winning streak early in the competition's history.

The Comp Eagles senior girls' team were also at a tournament in Birch Hills on Friday and Saturday. They finished 2-1 overall, after winning two out of three games.

The Eagles first burned Lake Lenore 83-15, then took a narrow victory against Kinistino 48-36.

Finally, they lost to Clavet Saturday by a score of 59-62, ending their run in the tournament.

Following the McLeod Series, the senior girls team heads to a tournament in Lake Lenore this weekend, while the senior boys are in Yorkton.
