The Weyburn Nature Society decided at its annual meeting Wednesday to pursue its participation in a province-wide bird-watching trail. A meeting with city officials and Weyburn community groups was held in early February to discuss the trail's feasibility. Two are already established in Saskatchewan, at Chaplin and Quill Lakes. Another meeting will be held to advance the plans. The society also made plans for several bird-watching outings this summer and participated in the provincial winter bird count. Residents who see unusual birds are asked to report them to Val Thomas. Lucille Cameron was re-elected president of the society for 2003, with Angela Roesslein as vice president, Elma McCormick as secretary, and Fred Garner as treasurer. Stewart Stairmand, Sid Trepoff, Bob Cameron, Angela Roesslein and Val Thomas were elected to the board for a two-year term. Ross Douglas, Elma McCormick, Lucille Cameron, Leo Belanger and Dick Gutfriend were elected to the board for a one-year term. The next meeting of the society will be held on Wednesday, March 19 at the Souris Valley Extended Care Centre. |
