Several months after a public meeting was held about establishing a low income resource centre in Weyburn, organizer Fred Sandeski will be holding another meeting to update city residents on the centre, which has been up and running for some time now. There will be a general information meeting about the Community Limited Income Centre on Monday, March 10, at the Weyburn Free Methodist Church, starting at 7:30 p.m. The centre has been in place at the Canadian Mental Health Association building at 404 Ashford Street, and has met with a positive response so far, said Sandeski. "We had our doors open as of Jan. 6. It's really gone well so far. There's been a lot of community support," he said. The meeting will serve as an introduction to the organization, and will update residents on what services and resources are available to those on low incomes in the city and surrounding area. There will be some guest speakers, including Dave Nelson from the provincial office of Canadian Mental Health, and Sherry Leach, NDP candidate for Weyburn-Big Muddy. Nelson will speak about the needs of people with disabilities and how organizations like this centre can help find the resources that may be available. The Weyburn Ministerial Association will also be on hand to make a presentation. Sandeski said people will find the centre has met with success in its early going already, and more people need to find out about it. "I think the centre will go over really well. People have been using it," he said. |
