This past week was a great one at Weyburn Comprehensive School. The drama department settled on the musical, The Wizard of Oz, to be performed on May 28, 29, 31 and June 1. Students and staff are looking forward to their third annual performance, with casting to be done in the near future. Two curling teams were victorious in the district playoffs and will be off to provincials this coming week. The boys' team of Jason Obst, Brad Wagner, Matt Hoffman, Darren Daku and Brad Wallin will be off to Strasbourg while the mixed team of Niki Smith, Sara Nikolejsin, Byron Moffat and Brennon Jones are journeying to Assiniboia. WCS has had a number of strong teams over the past years, a credit to the curling program here in Weyburn, and the teams are looking to continue this tradition. In basketball, the senior boys had a fantastic weekend, capturing the championship at the Swift Current tournament. This tournament featured most of the 5A Small Cities teams that will be traveling to Yorkton on March 14-15 to determine two teams to go on to Hoopla. This is the third tournament championship for the team this season and they are looking forward to the playoffs. The senior girls were 2-1 in a tournament at home this past weekend, while the junior boys won both of their games in their home tournament. Well over 100 parents and students attended a parent and teen night held at the school last Wednesday evening. Organizers were very pleased with the response and the sessions. A school dance, with the toga theme, took place on Friday with good attendance. There will be a senior boys and girls basketball tournament this coming weekend. This will bring to an end the regular season for the basketball teams. Playoffs will be held the following weekend. |
