The Weyburn Hospital Guild has been formed to help provide some of the needs at the Weyburn General Hospital formerly served by the Ladies Auxiliary. The Ladies Auxiliary folded a couple years ago as the group found their membership was decreasing. The former auxiliary members were approached by a representative of the hospital and asked if they could still operate in some form to help reorganize the Candy Stripers, now known as Junior Volunteers. As the group was still realizing money from knitted items, they decided to form the guild, which holds monthly meetings and will continue with the annual spring tea which had been held by the auxiliary. The guild purchased new uniforms for the Junior Volunteers and give each one a pin at the end of their term. The yearly spring tea will be held on Thursday, May 8, in the hospital's cafeteria. The guild will also extend their tray favours to a monthly theme for patients. All monies raised by the guild will go towards equipment for the hospital, and the well-being of the Junior Volunteers. The ladies also supply wool for the knitters and deliver books. If anyone is interested in helping the guild or contributing to their work, they can contact president Orline Zarry, secretary Dorothy McPherson or treasurer Phyllis McGugan. |
