Donations to the Young Fellows Club's 46th annual TV auction on Saturday, April 12 are coming along a little better than this time last year, said chair Scott Benning on Wednesday. "We've got a few more things than we had at this time last year but, in the end, I think we'll probably have about the same amount as last year to be auctioned," he said. About 560 items were sold last year in the Young Fellows' largest fund-raiser of the year on Access 7 television. The auction begins at 1 p.m. and continues until 9 p.m. "We've got a few really different things this year," said Benning. "We have an autographed hockey stick from the Toronto Maple Leafs, a beautiful picture from Ducks Unlimited, and a pair of Nike basketball shoes autographed by Toronto Raptor's player Vince Carter." On its way is also an autographed jersey from Edmonton Oilers' player Ryan Smyth, he said. A complete list of the items collected from businesses and sports groups will be published in the Weyburn Review in the Wednesday, April 9 issue. Some items also will be on display at the Weyburn Credit Union this week. Benning reminded residents to keep their eye open for the list in the Review and mark the date on their calendar for the auction. The auction allows residents to participate from the comfort of their own homes, where they can call in their bids, or go to McKenna Hall for all the excitement, he said. |
