4 -H active in Fillmore and Francis

The Fillmore-Francis 4-H Beef Club has been very active in the past few months with activities and fund-raisers.

On April 9, the 4-H Club made and served a chili meal at the Jackson Cattle Company Bull Sale as a fund-raiser.

They also sold raffle tickets and hope to get cookbooks later on in the spring.

A speech competition was held at the Fillmore United Church on Feb. 3. In the junior category, Dakota Jackson won first place and Amber Leguee won second.

Wendy Eberle took first place in the intermediate category and second went to Devon Grieve. In the senior category, Sarah Leguee won first and Ann Procyk took second.

Dakota Jackson, Sarah Leguee and Wendy Eberle went on to the area competition in Creelman, where Dakota and Sarah placed first and Wendy won a close second. Sarah got second at the district speakoffs, while Dakota placed first in both districts and regionals, which takes her to provincials on Saturday, April 26.

The club curling team consisted of Wendy Eberle, Meaghan Eberle, Brent Nostadt, and Ann Procyk. The team represented the club while competing at districts in Creelman in early February.

Sarah and Jake Leguee, Meaghan and Wendy Eberle, Ann Procyk, Dakota Jackson and Brent Nostadt all attended the district fun rally held in Weyburn in February. The day consisted of games at the United Church followed by some time at the pool with pizza.

In January, the club held a calf weigh-in at Jackson's place. In late December, the group took a tour of the Pipestone Feedlot at Grenfell where they learned about cattle handling and feeding.

Since December, the club has held five meetings.
