Weyburn Junior High to host teen conference in May

New experiences and new skills are the motivation behind the teen conference behind held at the Weyburn Junior High on Friday, May 16.

"Great Are Those Who Dare Try" is the theme of the conference, put on by the Student Activity Council (SAC).

The conference, which starts at 9 a.m. and will run all day, will feature some 60 workshops offered by some 60 plus presenters for the students at the Junior High to attend.

"We're making a big draw in the community," said teacher Jayne Hunter.

The subjects of the workshops will vary from broad topics like art, music, dancing, building, to specific skills, like rope-making, darts, henna tattoos, karate and creative writing. Students will pick and choose which workshops to attend.

In between, there will be nutrition session and lunch sessions offered by the Weyburn Junior High Parents' Association. At noon, there will be an automotive display set up at the school with fire trucks, motorcycles, ambulances and so on.

Also, the day will begin with a speech by keynote motivational speaker Dirk Gettle, and will end with a show about cryogenics, offered by the Regina Science Centre.
