A former Weyburn Red Wing defenceman and Anavet Cup champion has been signed with the American Hockey League (AHL) Philadelphia Phantoms. James Laux, a native of Cherry Hill, N.J., spent two seasons with the Red Wings, and was a member of the 2000-2001 team, who won the Anavet Cup Championship. He was also named the top defenceman at the 2001 Royal Bank Cup. Laux, 23, has played the last two years at Colorado College, where he helped his team capture the Western Collegiate Hockey Association championship and reach the NCAA tournament quarterfinals. His team's record of 30 wins tied for the second most wins in the university's history. Laux compiled 22 points and 32 penalty minutes over 36 games in 2002-2003 for Colorado College. He also once played for the Philadelphia Flyers Junior B team, and attended a Flyers/Phantoms mini-camp several years ago.
