The Weyburn Comprehensive School presented its annual sport and activity awards to its students at a ceremony on Tuesday morning in the Comp Cafetorium. In the sports categories, Falon Svedahl and Jessica Frederickson received the excellence award for girls' soccer. They each received a brass plate trophy and a medal. Jaelyn Greening won the coach's award for soccer. In the cross-country category, Alix Lackey and Nicole Squires received medals for outstanding performances. In football, Mike Bell received the Allen Moffat Trophy and a medal while Brandon Brock received the Al Watson Trophy and a medal, and Brendon LaBatte received the football coach's medal. In girls' volleyball, Tonya Mokelki won the award of excellence trophy and a medal while Kirsten Betker won the coach's medal. In boys' volleyball, Curtis Baillie won the Most Valuable Player Award and a medal; Jeff Moser won the trophy for most improved player and a medal; and Drew Krainyk won the coach's award and a medal. In junior boys' volleyball, Carter Hilkewich won the coach's award medal. In girls' basketball, Jessica Frederickson won the award of excellence trophy and a medal; Falon Svedahl and Kirsten Betker shared the medal for most improved performance; and Jaelyn Greening won the coach's medal. In boys' basketball, Jeff May and Curtis Baillie shared the most valuable player trophy and medals while Kris Frisk and Brandon Brock shared the medal for most improved players and Drew Krainyk received the coach's medal. In junior boys' basketball, Gerad Fox received the medal for most improved player. In girls' curling, Michelle Knoblauch and Melissa Wick shared the Bob Petit Memorial Award, while Justine Stephanson received the coach's medal. In boys' curling, Jason Obst and Matt Hoffman will have their names engraved on the Emil Porth Award and each received a medal. Jared Nimegeers received the coach's medal. In badminton, Jeff Moser will have his name engraved on the badminton trophy for excellence and will receive a trophy. Branden Schneider received the coach's medal. In track, Tonya Mokelki and Mike Bell will have their names engraved on an excellence award and received medals, while Nicole Squires received the coach's medal. In cheerleading, Twyla Westman received the trophy for dedication and performance, and a medal, while Megan Thorn received an award of excellence and a medal. In other extracurricular activities, Megan Leach received a new trophy and medal for outstanding choral student; Michelle Megenbir received an award and medal for outstanding female vocalist; Mike Tourand received an award and medal as the outstanding male vocalist; and Kelsey Mahaffey received an award for excellence in the choir. In band, Melissa Wick received a trophy and medal for outstanding woodwind performance, Janelle Cornish received a trophy and medal for outstanding brass performance, and Michelle Megenbir received a new trophy for most valuable player. In drama, the names of Megan Leach and Mike Tourand will be engraved on the Andrea Eckel shield and each will receive a medal. Also in drama, Michelle Megenbir received the director's choice medal while Steve Biss and Gerad Fox received medals for drama rookie award, and Rachelle Kvamme received the medal for music performance. In debate, Marcie Becker will have her name engraved on the Bryant Oratory Award and receive a medal, while Jessica Didyk and Ashley Mantei received the coach's medal. Megan Leach and Mike Tourand each received the SRC gavel, while Ali Anderson and Stephanie Pateman each received an advisor's medal and Mike Tourand received an award of excellence and a medal. In other awards, Megan Leach received the Bethel Trophy and a medal and the George Pierce plaque and medal as the Spirit Award. Falon Svedahl and Tonya Mokelki shared the Andrews and Wilder Trophy and medals, while Curtis Baillie and Mike Bell shared the Rose Brothers Trophy and medals. The Block W awards are presented to students who accumulate a high number of points for extracurricular activities. Casey Kievits (120), Cassandra Shangraw (140) and Stefanie Giroux (201) received the Comprehensive award. Allison Martin (120), Sasha Himsl (135), Janelle Cornish (140), Kelsey Mahaffey (187), Michelle Megenbir (211), and Aurora Elig (217) received the award for social activities. Heather Maloney (127), Michael Bell (131), Cameron Koski (131), Jeffrey May (151), Brandon Brock (156), Melissa Wick (177), Tanya Mokelki (193), Falon Svedahl (197), Jenna Unraw (203) and Curtis Baillie (222) received awards for athletic activity. Jessica Frederickson (273), Michael Tourand (313) and Megan Leach (495) received super block Ws. Comp teachers Franz Bihl, Pat Cugnet, and Brian Pegg received special block Ws, as they are all retiring from the school this year. |
