Midget Beavers struggle for victory in five matches

The Weyburn Midget Beavers have only one victory out of five games since June 10, including doubleheaders in Regina and Weyburn.

The Beavers last won against the Regina Dodgers, in the first game of a doubleheader in Regina on June 10. They won 10-4, after gaining eight runs in the first three innings.

In the first, the Beavers opened with a single from Gerad Fox, followed by a double from Bucky Schneider and a single from Josh Williams, bringing in both runners and two RBIs for Williams.

He gained another RBI in the second, along with Fox, after both singled following a walk by Justin Richter. Braden Messer also got an RBI, and Mat Larson stole home after he and Williams hit singles.

In the third, Troy Miller walked and reached home on an error, while Justin Richter singled and gave Fox an RBI.

In the sixth, Fox and Schneider singled, giving Messer and Larson RBIs. Pitching was Clinton Griffiths.

The second game, however, saw the Beavers fall to the Regina Braves 7-2. The Braves opened with four runs in the first inning; Weyburn didn't score until the third, as Parker Cameron and Messer singled and Cameron reached home on an error.

They gained their second run in the fourth when Williams tripled and Shugart singled for the RBI. Pitching was Ryan Thompson.

Friday the 13th proved to mostly unlucky for the Beavers, as they played a doubleheader with the Regina White Sox in Weyburn. The first game ended in a 2-2 tie, but their second game ended in a 3-1 loss.

Pitching for Weyburn in the first and second games respectively were Devin Ledingham and Josh Williams.

On Sunday, the Beavers traveled to Swift Current and lost 14-4. Schneider and Ledingham both had solo home runs in the third and fifth innings.

Their first run was in the first inning, Braden Messer walked, Mat Larson singled and Ledingham batted in an RBI with another single.

In the fourth, Williams and Miller singled, giving Thompson the RBI.

Pitchers were Larson, Fox and Cameron.

The next action for the Midget Beavers is on Sunday, June 22, at 1 p.m.
