A trio of golfers from Estevan's Woodlawn Golf Club dominated the Championship flight of the 2003 Labatt's Crocus Masters Golf Classic, held over the weekend at the Weyburn Golf Club. There were 85 golfers who took part in the 33rd annual event, with golfers from Weyburn and surrounding area joined by golfers from Estevan, Regina, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Prince Albert. Tyler Hilkewich came from behind to defeat Saturday's leader Dustin Ng by one stroke to win the Weyburn Credit Union Championship flight. Hilkewich opened with a 76 on Saturday, and shot a one-over part 73 on Sunday for a two-day total of 149. Ng had rounds of 73 and 77 for a tournament total of 150. Kim Hilkewich placed third with rounds of 76 and 74 for a tournament total of 150. In the nine-hole horse race, Pat Murphy of Estevan edged out Weyburn's Norm DeLaet and third place finisher Rob Thompson of Estevan. Thompson won the long drive contest. No golfers were able to claim either of the hole-in-one prizes. In the Weyburn Co-op First flight, Darcy Herlick of Oungre won first with a score of 152, followed by Kirk McGregor of Regina with 156 and Harold Klempner of Regina with 157. The Edward Jones Second flight was won by Tony Heath of Estevan with a two-day score of 158, with Pat Messer of Estevan second with 162 and Rob Isbister of Regina with 166. In the Mel's on Third-sponsored Third flight, Drew Krainyk of Weyburn won first place with a score of 166, followed by Ryan Rosengren of Midale with 169 and Doug Court of Weyburn with 170. In the Lackey Auctioneers Fourth flight, first place was won by Dennis Krainyk of Weyburn, who fired a 171; Mike Kesslering of Weyburn came second with 172, and Lynn Lowes of Regina placed third with 176. In the Weyburn Review/Jiffy Print Fifth flight, Dylan Clarke of Weyburn won first with a 178 score, followed by Dan Thibault of Regina with 179, and Bill Rudachyk of Weyburn with 179. Winning the Scott's Electric Sixth flight was Chuck Carroll of Regina with a 186, with Ian Semple of Weyburn in second with 190, and Larry Dally of Regina with a 190. In the Assurance Funeral Services Seventh flight, Kevin Bakken of Weyburn won first with a score of 194, Brad Huebner of Weyburn placed second with 196, and Chad Oltean of Regina was third with 203. |
