The Sun Country Regional Health Authority received a cheque for $11,060 on Aug. 1 from proceeds of a charity golf tournament.

The second annual Weyburn Charity Golf Tournament was held at the Weyburn Golf Course on July 6. The proceeds will go towards the purchase of a fetal heart monitor for the obstetrics department of the Weyburn General Hospital.

Marga Cugnet, vice-president of primary and integrated health care for the region, explained the monitor is a vital piece of equipment for the hospital.

"A fetal heart monitor gives essential information on heart rates and fetal behaviour. Whether assessing during labour and delivery, or during the pregnancy, the equipment allows our staff and physicians to monitor and care for the baby and mother in the best way," she said.

Many Weyburn area businesses provided sponsorships and prizes towards the golf tournament, and Sun Country Region health staff helped with the planning and worked during the tournament.

A date was set for the next golf tournament, on June 13, 2004, at the Weyburn Golf Course.
