The Comp Eagles senior girls volleyball team scored two tournament victories this weekend as they split their roster in half, with one group of girls heading to a tournament in Yorkton and the other heading to Fillmore. The contingent going to Yorkton were 10-4 in the round robin, giving them a first place tie with Regina Campbell. In the semi-final round, the girls beat Yorkton in three games, first losing 18-25 but then winning the next two 28-26 and 15-12. They then beat Campbell 17-25, 26-24 and 15-8 to win the tournament. In Fillmore, the other half of the Comp Eagles were among eight teams in a round-robin tournament. They went undefeated in the round robin and then defeated Fillmore in the final by two games (25-9, 25-11). The senior girls' next action is their home tournament this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19-20. The tournament starts Friday with a game at 2 p.m. Senior boys host home tourney In their first home action of the year, the Comp Eagles senior boys' volleyball team finished second in their tournament hosted in Weyburn over the weekend. There were a total of 13 teams at the tournament, which ran Friday and Saturday at the Comprehensive School. The Eagles senior boys had a strong showing at the event, finishing first out of their pool and then defeating Lumsden in three games in the semi-finals. In the finals for their pool, however, the Eagles lost two straight games to Balgonie to finish second. They nearly won their second game as they were leading Balgonie by several points, but their opponents staged a comeback and won 26-24. Despite losing their momentum in the finals, coach Terry Biss said, "I was very happy with the progress of the team to this point." The junior boys team was also entered in the tournament, and finished fifth in the second pool of the event. This Sept. 20-21 weekend, the senior boys team is off to Estevan, while the junior boys travel to Rouleau. |
